About The Perfect Gift
The Perfect Gift is one of the most widely-sold prepaid Visa and Mastercard products in Canada. The card is issued by Peoples Trust Company and is sold at supermarkets, pharmacies, big-box retailers, and convenience stores across the country. It's a non-reloadable gift card — you load a fixed amount at the time of purchase, and the card is finished once that amount is spent.
Like other prepaid Visa/Mastercard products, it's intended for gifting and works anywhere those networks are accepted online and in-store, with the usual prepaid-card caveats around subscriptions and pre-authorizations.
Where to buy
- Major grocery chains across Canada.
- Pharmacies (Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, London Drugs, etc.).
- Convenience stores and gas stations on multi-brand gift-card racks.
- Some big-box retailers (Walmart Canada, Canadian Tire).
An activation fee (typically a few dollars) is added to the card's face value at the register and the card is activated when the cashier rings it through.

The card works at most online merchants that accept Visa or Mastercard. To improve approval rates with merchants that use Address Verification System (AVS) checks, register the card on the cardholder portal first — you'll be asked to attach a billing address. Without registration, some online checkouts may reject the transaction.
Common questions
Is it the same as the Vanilla Gift Card?
Both are prepaid Visa/Mastercard products issued by Peoples Trust, but they're sold under different brand names. The product mechanics are similar; the cardholder portals are separate. Always use the URL printed on the back of your specific card. See also our Vanilla Gift Card guide.
Does the card expire?
The plastic card has a printed expiry date (typically several years from activation). Under Canadian provincial law, the funds on retailer/non-promotional gift cards generally do not expire before that date. Confirm the specific terms in the cardholder agreement on the issuer's site.
Can I get cash back?
Generally no, except where required by provincial law for very small remaining balances. The card is meant to be spent, not converted to cash.
What if my balance is wrong or the card stops working?
Use the customer-service link on the cardholder portal. We are not the issuer and cannot help with disputes — only Peoples Trust customer service can.
Always verify current terms on the issuer's site at theperfectgift.ca.
