About the Apple Gift Card
Apple consolidated their previously separate "App Store & iTunes" and "Apple Store" gift cards into a single unified Apple Gift Card in 2020. It now works for both digital purchases (apps, subscriptions, music, iCloud storage) and physical Apple Store items (iPhones, iPads, Macs, accessories).
The card is region-locked: an Apple Gift Card purchased in Canada is for the Canadian Apple ecosystem. Cards from other countries cannot be redeemed on Apple's Canadian storefronts.
Where to buy
- apple.com/ca — physical or digital eGift, instant or scheduled delivery.
- Apple retail stores — physical cards.
- Major Canadian retailers — most grocery, pharmacy, and convenience stores carry physical Apple Gift Cards.
How to check your balance
Apple Gift Card balance is tied to your Apple ID once redeemed. To check:
- Open the App Store (iPhone/iPad), Apple Music app, or sign in to appleid.apple.com.
- Go to your Apple ID account page.
- Look for "Apple ID Balance" — the available gift card balance is shown there.
Cards you haven't redeemed yet have a 16-digit code (under the silver scratch-off panel) that you redeem in any Apple app or at the link printed on the card.
Using your Apple Gift Card
For digital purchases
Once redeemed, the balance is applied automatically to App Store, iTunes, Apple Music, iCloud+, and other digital purchases — your account balance is used before any other payment method.
For Apple retail
At apple.com/ca or in an Apple Store, you can apply gift card balance toward any product. Balance over $10,000 in a single transaction may have additional verification.
Common questions
Can I transfer my balance to someone else?
No. Once redeemed to your Apple ID, the balance is locked to your account.
Does the card expire?
Apple Gift Cards do not expire under Canadian provincial law.
Can I use it for Apple Care or repair services?
Yes — Apple Gift Card balance generally works for AppleCare+ and out-of-warranty repairs at Apple stores.
