About the Google Play gift card
Google Play gift cards add credit to your Google Play balance, which is used across Google's mobile ecosystem: the Play Store (apps and games), Google Play Books, Google Play Movies (where available), and any subscription that bills through the Play Store (YouTube Premium, Google One, in-app subscriptions).
The cards are region-locked: a Canadian Google Play card credits a Canadian Google account in CAD.
Where to buy
- Major Canadian retailers — most grocery, pharmacy, and convenience-store gift-card racks.
- Best Buy Canada — broad denomination selection.
- Online from Google Play — eGift codes sent by email.
How to redeem and check balance
- Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device, or visit play.google.com/redeem.
- Sign in to your Google account.
- Tap the menu and select Redeem gift card or promo code.
- Enter the code from the back of the card (under the scratch-off panel).
- The credit is added immediately. To check your balance later, open Google Play → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Payment methods.
Using your Google Play balance
At checkout in the Play Store or in any app billing through Google Play, your balance is shown as one of the available payment options. Once selected, it covers the purchase amount up to the available balance; anything above is charged to a backup payment method on file.
Common questions
Can I use it for hardware (Pixel phones, Nest devices)?
Generally no — those are sold through the Google Store (separate from Play Store). Google Play balance is for Play Store digital purchases and subscriptions.
Does it work for YouTube Premium / YouTube Music?
If your YouTube Premium / Music subscription bills through the Play Store, yes — your Google Play balance covers it. Subscriptions billed directly through youtube.com cannot use Play balance.
Can I transfer the balance to another account?
No. Once redeemed to a Google account, the balance is locked to that account.
Does the balance expire?
Google Play balance does not expire under Canadian provincial law.
